Beach Bed and Breakfast
Saint Simons Island, Georgia
By Stacy Maxwell

“We have one Governor’s Suite, which has a patio overlooking the ocean where you can watch the sunrise every morning.  We also have five other rooms as well that are all beautifully appointed with a beach feel to them,” says Joe McDonough.

Each guestroom greets travelers with an array of in-room touches like plush robes, fireplaces, ceiling fans, satellite/cable televisions and amenity baskets.

“The honeymoon you’ve always dreamed of— luxurious — romantic — private…and magnificent views of the Atlantic Ocean from your front balcony.”

Off the Georgia shores on Saint Simons Island, where crisp breezes ruffle high grasses and tousle the Spanish moss hanging from the oak trees, life is a beach 365 days a year, especially when idling away the moments at the Beach Bed and Breakfast. Visitors at the Spanish Mediterranean-style villa will easily fall in sync with the natural, rhythmic course of the tides, sun and moon.

Innkeeper Joe McDonough and his team extend world-class accommodations and impeccable service.  In fact, Beach Bed and Breakfast is such a top-shelf Georgia peach, that it is succulent enough to be listed as a distinctive member of the Select Registry.  These chosen inns of North America comprise an elite group whittled down to 400 inns and bed and breakfasts from more than 22,000 accommodations nationwide.  It goes to follow that the bed and breakfast has been voted “Best Bed & Breakfast on Beautiful St. Simons Island, Georgia.”  In other words, if travels take you to 907 Beachview Drive, anticipate an unparalleled experience.

Lovers have endless (and breathtaking) vantage points in the 13,000 square-foot beachfront inn to view Mother Nature’s hand at painting an odyssey of panoramic views of the Atlantic Ocean, including St. Simons Sound, Jekyll Island and Cumberland Island.

General Manager at Beach Bed and Breakfast, which was opened in 2002, Joe McDonough says, “We have one Governor’s Suite, which has a patio overlooking the ocean where you can watch the sunrise every morning.  We also have five other rooms as well that are all beautifully appointed with a beach feel to them.”

Honeymooners take note as Joe describes the most popular room at the Beach Bed and Breakfast, saying the Governor’s Suite is not only “the most frequently sold room,” but “actually the crème de la crème” on the property.

The B & B’s Honeymoon Package tagline, which represents the Governor’s Suite, states “The honeymoon you’ve always dreamed of— luxurious — romantic — private…and magnificent views of the Atlantic Ocean from your front balcony.” To name a sampling of goodies in the package:  complimentary breakfast served each morning on the veranda, complimentary in-room beverages and snacks, dinner for two at a selection of area restaurants and even a special gift from the bed and breakfast.  Reserve a package well in advance if you can visualize you and your mate embraced in total bliss—with approximately 860 square feet, there’s plenty of space for couples to experience the rapture.  Each inch is delectably furnished.  To illustrate just a smidgeon of the comfort awaiting: there’s a massive stone fireplace, a seating area that shouts “magazine-spread, photo-shoot ready,” not to mention a king-size bed that will tempt even early risers to oversleep. For those who long for unhurried bath time, the ample designer bathroom boasts a Jacuzzi tub, separate water closet with bidet and large walk-in tile closet with two showerheads.

Couples who sojourn in any one of the quarters at the inn, fit-for-royalty, abundantly rich in amenities, are surely sparked into heartfelt dialogue, or perhaps, better still, enticed into the most intimate moment.  Each guestroom greets travelers with an array of in-room touches like plush robes, fireplaces, ceiling fans, satellite/cable televisions and amenity baskets. In some rooms, couples can nest upon irresistible balconies that extend over the rear courtyard facing the Endless Pool.

Whether reserving a guestroom, suite, or the entire villa to accommodate a wedding party or other special gatherings of up to 20, realize that the arm of comfortable sophistication reaches the common areas of the inn where no details are left unnoticed.  Downstairs, for instance, guests can take further pleasure in the Beach Theatre Media Room complete with a wide-screen television.  Serenity seekers will also discover a quiet area for reading or simply meditating.  “We have bicycles on-property that are complimentary.  You can just hop on a bike; there are so many bike paths on this island that you can ride forever.  You can take your bikes and ride on the beach,” Joe elaborates.

The Guest Services Desk helps plan and personalize any itinerary like golf, fishing, spa services, a multitude of dining experiences and tours of the island and throughout the Golden Isles.  No matter what the plan of the day brings, guests will certainly be ready after their fill of the gourmet breakfast served on the balcony or in the sun-drenched breakfast room.  “When you come downstairs, two of our signature items that you get are granola and yogurt, and then you get a bowl of fruit and then you get your breakfast, which can be anything as far as one of our mini-quiches or breakfast casseroles to blueberry pancakes,” Joe explains.

In the evening, guests gather for delightful conversation during the nightly cocktail hour, which means tasty hors d’oeuvres. Yummy from morning until night, which is how Beach Bed and Breakfast can be categorized: superbly fresh, fragrant and nourishing like a peach plucked straight from the tree.
