Romance, elegance and tranquility describe
the ambiance at the 1889 White Gate Inn and Cottage. The Inn is listed
on the National Register of Historic Places, offering lodging nestled in
the Blue Ridge Mountains and conveniently located just minutes from the
Biltmore Estate.
The five distinctive guestrooms in the Inn,
each honoring distinguished American poets, feature private baths,
air-conditioning, and queen-size beds. The rooms are each uniquely
custom decorated, reflecting different period styles, including English,
Arts and Crafts, and Victorian. Poetry volumes by each featured poet are
included in each room.
It’s the attention to details that makes
staying at the White Gate Inn extra special. From the candlelit
three-course gourmet breakfast to the soft elegant bath robes, every
detail at the inn was designed with our guests’ comfort in mind, making
your Great Smoky Mountains vacation truly unforgettable.
The award-winning gardens include
18 varieties of Japanese maples and over 300 different varieties
of perennials, hostas, roses, and herbs. The greenhouse houses a
collection of over 1500 orchids and tropicals. Guests are
invited to enjoy the splendor of these beautiful gardens. Paths
and sitting areas throughout the gardens make the grounds a
perfect place to wander stress free or sit and meditate among
nature's beauty and abundance. The inn’s gardens and waterfalls
also provide a stunning backdrop for your wedding, or take her
breath away by ending your romantic weekend getaway with a
marriage proposal among the roses.

“The house has a very elegant, romantic feeling,” says
Frank Salvo who is the co-innkeeper with Ralph Coffey. “Our rooms are
very posh and very luxurious; we have suites that have hot tubs and
walk-in showers and extra body jets,” Frank further explains. Each
period-styled guestroom, including English and Victorian as well as Arts
and Crafts, tucks away volumes of poetry written by its particular
namesake…meant to be savored word for word.
