Overview
The Fensalden Inn Bed and Breakfast, located on the Northern California Coast just south of Mendocino, is a completely renovated 1850s era Wells Fargo stage coach stop that offers the traveler eight romantic accommodations with magnificent ocean views, fireplaces, private bathrooms and gourmet breakfasts.
Overlooking the Pacific Ocean from twenty tree-lined pastoral acres, Fensalden Inn offers warm hospitality and a quiet respite and relaxing atmosphere for the perfect getaway.
Accommodations
There are eight guest rooms, five in the main house, including a two room suite with a queen size canopy bed. All rooms have fireplaces or gas stoves, bar refrigerators and ocean or garden views.
The Water Tower complex houses two units. One is a suite with a private entrance, full kitchen, living room with wood burning fireplace, and a queen sleeping loft. The cathedral ceilings allow huge windows which overlook the ocean. There is an adjoining queen room with a private entrance, which also has a wood burning fireplace, bar refrigerator and ocean view.
The eighth unit is a bungalow with private entrance, porch, large living room with a gas burning fireplace, dining table and chairs under a picture window overlooking the ocean, and a queen size bed at the far end of the room. One step down puts you in a fully equipped kitchen. Two steps up and you are in a queen sleeping nook. There are two lofts each with a single bed. There is a Jacuzzi tub with a skylight above it, and a redwood shower completes the romantic ambiance.
The Inn's main building includes three common rooms for guests' use. A wood burning fireplace in the entry parlor compliments the antiques, pewter collection and Oriental rugs. The hand rubbed redwood paneling lends a warm feeling to the room. The adjoining library is equipped with FAX, telephone, and PC outlets.
The Tavern Room is the hub of the Main House. There, among fine antiques and Oriental prints, one can sit and enjoy the fire and gaze at the ever changing sea as you enjoy afternoon wine and hors d'oeuvres.

"A sense of historic hospitality reigns at Fensalden Inn...Hamby has preserved the Inn's rustic appeal, while making the accommodation plush and pampering...The simple truth is that every room at Fensalden is lovely." San Francisco Magazine
"Innkeeper Evelyn Hamby waves from the brightly lit kitchen window of the rambling, shingle-clad inn ~ like an image from a Hallmark card. Situated on the site of a stagecoach stop in the 1850s, the structure is a montage of historic and new sections. What was left of the original house was merged many years ago with a nearby tavern where bullet holes can still be seen in the redwood ceiling."
