The building which is now
Stone Mill Suites was completed in 1885 by the Nelson brothers
who constructed its walls out of limestone quarried from the
bluffs surrounding Lanesboro. The stone building originally
served as a cold storage facility, its lower levels being used
to store ice cut from the nearby mill pond. The cold storage
complemented the egg and poultry receiving and processing plant
located in the upper levels of the building. Carload after
carload of product was shipped east, preserved by the ice from
the mill pond.
Stone Mill Suites has ten themed
suites and guest bedrooms reflecting local history and the
building’s undeniable charm. The original clay and lofty wood
ceilings, and pipe stair railings accent the decor. The inn
offers relaxing and modern amenities including iron claw
fireplaces, double whirlpool tubs, microwaves, refrigerators,
televisions and DSL. Several rooms have lofts and separate
sitting areas. A delicious continental breakfast is served
daily. Stone Mill Suites is a Select Member of Better Bed and
Breakfast Inns.
Meeting Facilities: Feed
Mill Event Center: accommodates receptions, weddings, rehearsal
dinners, reunions, seminars, club and business meetings.

Handicap accessible. In the warm months an outside patio is
available. An 1880's feed mill that has been lovingly restored
into Lanesboro's most unique venue for small groups (75
maximum). While the mill is obsolete, it is still operational
and has found a new use as a historic inn, retail store and
event center. The staff enjoys the challenge of working with the
building structure, blending merchandise between the feed
mixers, up the augers, into the lags, and around the wooden
pulleys.
