Sunset Hill House--A Grand Inn has been a favored getaway for over 120 years. At 1700 feet elevation, it is one of the highest hotels in New England and has a view to match. In October 1999 Yankee Magazine featured Sunset Hill House as one of the "Best Views with a Room" in all New England and took the centerfold picture for the article from our dining room.

Matching the view is our superior restaurant featuring executive chef Joseph Peterson. A Johnson and Wales graduate, featured in Bon Appetit and Gourmet his kitchen prepares some of the finest gourmet meals in north of Boston. In summer 2001, New Hampshire Magazine called us “NH’s Most Spectacular Meal" and again in 2004 named us "best dinner by alpenglow". We are a Chaine des Rotisseurs establishment.

Casual elegance are the watchwords here. Meet a moose, then join us for a drink at the bar. Spend the day playing, then curl up with a good book in front of one of our many fireplaces, or find one of our quiet nooks or crannies for a chat. Watch the sunset glow from our dining rooms while you sip champagne and enjoy our chef’s classic cooking. Walk silently under the evening stars. Peep into the heavens through one of our telescopes. Fall asleep watching the moon rise over the mountains. Sleep in if you wish – there is no traffic to wake you.

While at the inn, guests also have ready access to golf (1st tee is 100 feet from the inn), swimming in our heated mountainside pool, hiking, walking and biking from the front door.

The village of is Sugar Hill (one of just three New Hampshire villages included in the book "New England's Most Beautiful Villages". We overlook Franconia Notch State Park (one of the 10 best state parks in the United States), which is home to Cannon Mountain ski area. Nearby you'll find the White Mountain National forest, Bretton Woods and Loon ski resorts, and all the famed White Mountain attractions such as the Basin, Flume Gorge, and famed Cog Railway.

The 28 guest rooms range from the tastefully simple to luxurious, all with private bathrooms, AC, phones, and views of either Vermont’s fabled Green Mountains or New Hampshire’s more rugged White Mountains. Extra room amenities may include a two-person Jacuzzi, gas fireplace, private porch, cable TV or wet bar. Our suites contain most or all of these and add a separate living room as well as views in to both mountain ranges.

We also do fabulous weddings, reunions, and business meetings and were featured in 2002 in Small Market Meetings Magazine and named one the “best spots in New Hampshire to tie the knot” by New Hampshire Magazine. We have full and separate professional conferencing facilities for up to 150 guests, and welcome weddings up to 300.

When we first discovered the Sunset Hill House, one staff member summed up the atmosphere perfectly: We are small enough to know our guests, yet large enough not to be intrusive. We both look forward to welcoming you personally to Sunset Hill House.
