Weddings: Because weddings have so many variables such as number of guests, will you need a tent, will there be an open bar or just wines, etc. So we ask that you call our wedding coordinator, Mrs. Jerrie Smethurst, between 9 and 3 on Mondays thru Thursdays and she will be able to give you a quote. She will also be glad to set up an appointment at your convenience to come and see why so many couples have enjoyed the most romantic wedding experience here at Prospect Hill. We promise you will not be disappointed. After the ceremony, a carriage ride in the country is a wonderful way to reflect and enjoy some time together.

Mobil Travel Guide Four Stars

An award-winning Country Inn comprised of the 1732 manor house and original 18th century dependencies and slave quarters on this historic plantation. Romantic 5-course candlelit dining, breakfast-in-bed, working fireplaces, Jacuzzis, private balconies, and swimming pool are located just 15 miles east of Charlottesville, VA, in the serenity of the coutryside. Our Inn has been selected as one of America's most romantic getaways. Plan to arrive early for our complimentary wine reception before dinner, and stroll our 50 acres of arboretum gardens and lawns while smelling the aromas wafting from the kitchen as we prepare the evening fare. Lodging rates include dinner, breakfast and gratuities.

Accommodations: Accommodations are in the restored outbuildings with their beamed ceilings, and squeaking floors and all with cozy working fireplaces, or in the manor house with antique furnishings and quilts and a private verandah overlooking the countryside.

Dining: Dining at Prospect Hill Plantation is an unusual culinary experience. Guests are encouraged to arrive early to enjoy a complimentary refreshment while acquainting themselves with their fellow diners, our gardens, parlors, and wine cellar. For over twenty years, the dining experience at Prospect Hill has begun the same way -- the innkeeper's bell announces the start of a five-course repast created by the inn's talented culinary staff. The Sheehan family has continued a tradition that goes back to 1874 when the Overton family first started taking guests in after the Civil War. Once all have chosen an intimate table, the chef details the menu, and the courses begin to appear. Menu selections are chosen from the finest of fresh regional ingredients, and feature creative, original recipes with a distinct European influence.

Each day at Prospect Hill begins with a full country breakfast served on a tray in the guest's room or in the dining room. Afternoon tea offers an opportunity to visit with the Sheehan family and other guests.
