Honeymooners plan fundraising for school in rural Mexico

Imagine a reservation for a honeymoon couple who specifically request a desire to help children in the local area. The couple from Toronto wanted to make their wedding plans as much about helping others as possible. Alana and Blair contacted us at Balamku Inn on the Beach with this request.

I had just been working with the local school in our area about an immediate need for more space for their children by this August when Alana's request came "out of the blue." I am never surprised anymore when these paths of synchronicity cross. This followed with a planned Jack and Jill party in Toronto where all the money raised was targeted for the school project. Then more fundraising around Toronto and via Facebook, all prior to the wedding.

Their honeymoon in June will include a visit to the school and putting close to $3000 in our group's Trust for the exclusive use of extending the little bursting school with another room and bano for this fall, all built by the parents.

We are fortunate when hospitality goes beyond providing a nice place for people to stay. This benevolence is often twinned with a strong interest in the Environment and perhaps that is why Balamku is fortunate to have many guests with a conscience come our way.

I've heard of Voluntourism as a growing trend but this concept of sharing wedding bliss and their money with others is different.
