Vermont Innkeeper Frank Hanes Solo Cross-Country Bike Ride to fight Prostate Cancer
My Coast to Coast Ride Against Prostate Cancer

Vermont Innkeeper Frank Hane's goal is to raise $45,000 for the Prostate Cancer Foundation.
“It’s the least I can do, but I need your help to make it happen,” says Frank. |
Innkeeper Frank Hane's goal is to raise $45,000 for the Prostate Cancer Foundation. That is $10 per mile. He left Anacortes, Washington on Memorial day weekend and his goal is to reach Bar Harbor, Maine by early August.
So far he has raised $18,000 and he is asking for your help to make this goal a reality. One in six men are diagnosed with Prostate cancer and that number increases if you are a black male.
Why Prostate Cancer? Because a dear friend of his, who stays at his Inn at Manchester, in Manchester, Vermont, is battling this awful disease and he felt that this would be a great opportunity to ride on his behalf as well as for other men that have this disease. “It’s the least I can do, but I need your help to make it happen,” says Frank.
In addition to raising needed funds, Frank hopes to inspire others along the route in the way Jim has inspired him to embrace their passion and challenge themselves to follow their dreams no matter what they are.
The Road Ahead
Frank plans to spend every possible night of the trip at an independent lodging property such as an inn, B&B, or family run motel. "These are the people I feel a great affinity for and welcome the opportunity to hear how they’re making their dreams happen in their unique businesses. I look at it as a bonus chance to share, and learn," says Frank.
So that every dollar per mile can go to the Prostate Cancer Foundation Frank is seeking sponsorships to cover basics expenses of equipment, lodging and meals.
Notes from the Road: On June 10 Frank was in Havre, Montana. "Oh… I’ve really enjoyed following the train tracks over the past 2 days. Trains fascinate the hell out of me. There are stops all along the way where there is nothing but train track and crop silos…that’s it. There is nothing else. They are about 7-10 miles apart. Other than that there are just fields…that’s all you see. A local told me that the reason they are 7-10 miles apart was because back in “the day” the farmers did not want to push their horses any further so they set up these crop transfer stations 7-10 miles apart long the railway tracks. Cool!"
