The Middlebury Inn, Middlebury, Vermont, is Middlebury’s oldest Inn circa 1827, continues to do its part to keep up with the times and think globally. “Green Hotels in the Green Mountain State” has awarded the Middlebury Inn its official “Green Hotel” designation for its use of sound environmental practices and hard work to reduce, reuse and recycle. |
The Inn prides itself on being a team player in the community and making sound decisions that preserve its heritage and the environment around it. Practices that have been instituted at the Inn include on-premise recycling for staff and guests, guestroom towel and linen reuse programs, purchase of recycled paper products, and installation of energy efficient fluorescent lighting. Timers have been put on hot water circulators and windows in guest rooms have been replaced with more energy conserving thermal windowpanes.
In the kitchen, fresh local products and ingredients that do not have to be transported a long distance are used to prepare the Inn’s signature dishes (such as the Inn’s fresh homemade ice cream!). Left over food is now composted and ovens are monitored more closely and are on only when in use.
Located on the Village Greens in the heart of Middlebury, VT, the Middlebury Inn is also a 100% smoke free property. “We are newly renovated and invested in our Green commitment,” says General Manager Jeff Costello, “and the Inn will remain dedicated to the community and the long term health of the world around it.”
The “Green Hotels” program is administered by the Vermont Small Business Development Center in partnership with the Vermont Department of Environmental Conservation, the Vermont Department of Tourism and Marketing, and the Vermont Chamber of Commerce/Vermont Hospitality Council.
